Is Lucifer the Name of The Adversary?
The name of the Evil one in Hebrew is Shawtan (shin, tet, nun), Satanas in the Greek, and Satan in English, which basically means Adversary. He has been given multiple titles such as Abbadon, Leviathan, the Devil, and along with many more. Many people including myself for quite some time, have been falsely led to believe that his name before his fall was Lucifer. This is incorrect and is technically a form of blasphemy to call him this name and we will shortly learn why that is. The Bible actually never tells us what the Adversary’s actual name was before iniquity was found in him, which means that he has been evil for a very long time, and well before man was created.
See, the name Lucifer is a Latin word which is made up of two parts; lux-lucis (light) and ferre (to bring). When Jerome (a pagan Catholic priest) wrote the Latin Vulgate, he wrongfully interpreted the Scriptures and thus mistranslated both Isaiah 14:12 and 2 Peter 1:19. He used the name Lucifer in both of these Scriptures. In the book of Isaiah, the Prophet is clearly speaking about Satan (the Adversary). In Peter’s Epistle, the Apostle is clearly speaking about the Mashiach. This was a sly way for the Catholic Church to insert Lucifer worship or Satan worship into their teachings, chants, songs, and prayers.
Now let’s break down these two Scriptures using the actual language they were written in. We will first begin with the passage written by the Prophet Isaiah. We read,
Isaiah 14:12 (NIV): How you have fallen from heaven, morning star (helel), son of the dawn (shachar)! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
Isaiah 14:12 (NKJV): How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer (helel) son of the morning (shachar)! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!
Most Bible translations will translate the Hebrew word helel (#1966) as: star or Lucifer, but that is a completely inaccurate translation. The Hebrew word for star is, kokab (#3556) and the word helel has dual meanings.

Notice that the translation of the Hebrew word helel is a Latin word, Lucifer, instead of a direct English translation. Next, they presumptuously applied a positive definition to this word instead of taking in account the context of this passage written by the Prophet. Also, they called Lucifer the morning star and nowhere in Isaiah 14:12 is the Hebrew word for star written. This definition of the Hebrew word helel is extremely inaccurate. This word comes from the Hebrew word halal and we are told to see the Hebrew word halal for better understanding and rendering.
Strong’s Concordance number 1984, halal: make boast self, celebrate, commend, deal, make, foolish glory, give light, be make. A primitive root; to be clear (orig. Of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence, to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causatively, to celebrate; also to stultify — (make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool(- ish, -ly), glory, give (light), be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, (sing, be worthy of) praise, rage, renowned, shine.
Do you remember that I said that the word helel/halal had dual meanings? Well, this word can be used both positively to give praise to YAHUAH (see Psalms) or to describe someone who is boastful, foolish glory (wanting glory that belongs to Aluahim alone), to make a show, mad, rage, and pretending with intention to deceive (feign self). Now you tell me, was the Prophet Isaiah using this Hebrew word helel in a positive or negative way? Isaiah plainly tells us what he means in the following two verses. We read,
Isaiah 14:13-14 (NKJV): For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars (kokab) of Aluahim; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’
First, take note that the Prophet uses the Hebrew word for star, and the Bible translators properly render the word kokab as, stars whereas in the previous verse they wrongfully translated the word helel as, either star or Lucifer. Next, we can clearly see that this description of Satan is about boastfulness, haughtiness, and wanting glory for himself. Therefore, the word helel in verse 12 should be rendered as something negative and not positive.
Satan is not light nor even the bringer or bearer of light in which Aluahim alone is Light and the Bearer of Light. By calling Satan, Lucifer (bringer or bearer of light) you are giving him the title he so longs for and enables him to disguise himself as an angel of light (refer to 2 Cor. 11:14). Satan is not a bearer or bringer of light but of darkness, for only Aluahim is Light and the One whom both bears and brings Light.
Before moving on to the second Scripture where the Latin Vulgate uses the word Lucifer, we need to better translate the Hebrew word shachar. This word (shachar) is rendered as, “morning” in Isaiah 14:12.
Strong’s Concordance number 7837, shachar: dayspring, early, light, morning, whence rises. From shachar; dawn (literal, figurative or adverbial) — day(-spring), early, light, morning, whence riseth. see HEBREW shachar.
Strong’s Concordance number 7836, shachar: do something betimes, enquire early, seek betimes, seek diligently early, in the morning. A primitive root; properly, to dawn, i.e. (figuratively) be (up) early at any task (with the implication of earnestness); by extension, to search for (with painstaking) — (do something) betimes, enquire early, rise (seek) betimes, seek diligently) early, in the morning).
Most of the time, the Tanakh translates the word shachar as, morning, early, or dawn. Yes, this is all reference to light but Satan himself is not light nor the bringer of light although he can deceive many into believing that he is light. (refer to Acts 26:18, 2 Corinthians 11:14). Only Aluahim is light and His son the bringer of light. The Prophets write,
2 Samuel 23:4: And He shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, Like the tender grass springing out of the earth, By clear shining after rain.’
Malachi 4:2: But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
1 John 1:5: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that Aluahim is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
John 8:12: Then Yahushua spoke to them again, saying, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
It is true that all of the angels are called sons and are often times referred to as stars (refer to Job 38:7). Also, Satan is referred to by John as the star that fell from heaven (refer to Revelation 9:1, Luke 10:18) but Satan is never referred to as “the morning star” for we will shortly see that that title is only given to Yahushua. The Prophet Isaiah did not use the word star in Isaiah 14:12 but rather, shachar. Satan is called a son because just like all of the other angels, Satan is and was created by YAHUAH the Father. And the Prophet clarifies whose son Satan is by using the word shachar, for only Aluahim is light.
The proper rendering of Isaiah 14:12 is as follows:
Isaiah 14:12: How you are fallen from Heaven you arrogant, boastful, and deceitful One, son of the Morning Light (i.e. Aluahim). You are cut down to the earth you who weakened (or overthrew) the people (or nations of the world).
It is very important to understand that Isaiah did not call Satan “the morning light” nor “morning star” but rather, “the son of the Morning Light”.
Now we will have much more clarity when we read 2 Peter 1:19. It reads as follows,
2 Peter 1:19 (NJKV): And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star (phosphoros) rises in your hearts.
First, take note that the Greek word in this verse which is translated as morning star is phosphoros, and this word was also translated as Lucifer in the Latin Vulgate. This is Strong’s Concordance number 5459, phosphoros: a morning star. From phos and phero; light-bearing (“phosphorus”), i.e. (specially), the morning-star (figuratively) — day star.
In the Greek Scriptures, the word phosphoros is most commonly translated as, light. The Greek word for star is not written in this verse but is not wrongfully presumed. Yahushua plainly tells us that he is the Bright Morning Star. John writes,
Revelation 22:16: “I, Yahushua, have sent my angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star (aster).”
In the above verse, the Greek word for star is used and of course because the Greeks and Romans were and still are pagans, the Greek word for star is aster which comes from the Babylonian female deity Ashtar or Ashtaroth in which is also given the title, “the queen of heaven” and is represented by the star Venus.
2 Peter 1:19 could have easily been rendered as:
2 Peter 1:19 (NJKV): And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Light Bearer (lucifer in Latin and phosphoros in Greek) rises in your hearts.
But translating phosphoros as, Morning Star, also aligns perfectly with the rest of the Scriptures or Testimony of whom Yahushua truly is. The Scriptures never give Satan the title, “the bright morning star” or “light bearer”. This is an error made by many which began in the late 4th Century AD when Jerome, a pagan Catholic priest, translated both the Tanakh and Brit Chadashah into Latin. He translated both Isaiah 14:12 and 2 Peter 1:19 as Lucifer. And by doing so, he gave the title “light bearer” or “bright morning star” to Satan. This assisted Satan in setting up his counterfeit religion(s) in which is meant to try and replace Yahushua HaMashiach with one of Satan’s man-made aliases.
To conclude, Yahushua is the only one given the title, “Bright Morning Star”. This is because when he returns it will be in the early morning (shachar) according to Aluahim’s days and nights (refer to 2 Peter 3:8, Psalms 90:4). As Yahushua was risen at the end of the fourth watch and beginning of dawn, he will return at the same time of the day (between the hour of the fourth watch and early morning, according to Aluahim’s time). And it is said that he will shine brighter than the sun (refer to Acts 26:13, Malachi 4:2, Isaiah 24:23, 2 Thess. 2:8), for Aluahim is Light and Yahushua abides in that light. The Apostle writes,
1 Timothy 6:16: Who (speaking of Aluahim) alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.
The Latin title, Lucifer, is made up of two words in which was made into a title that literally translates as, “light bringer” or “light bearer”. Now remember I told you that calling Satan, Lucifer, is blasphemy? Well, there is only One Light Bringer or Bearer and that is Aluahim. Therefore, calling Satan “the light bringer” or “light bearer” breaks the first three commandments out of the ten while giving Satan the title he has always coveted, “to be like the Most-High” which is Light, Glory and Creator of all things. Only Aluahim is Light, the Bringer and Bearer of Light, full of Glory and Creator of all things in Whom alone deserves worship, praise (halal) and honor. With that said, Halal YAHUAH and His Mashiach whom sits in the throne surrounded by the Bright Light of Aluahim. Amen.
So, is it ok to call Yahushua, Lucifer? By no means. This is a title given by man to the Adversary in order to worship him and gain worldly treasures (i.e. status, powerful positions, wealth, fame, etc.) but Aluahim’s children should never refer to Satan as, Lucifer. Calling Yahushua HaMashiach, Lucifer, is also a form of blasphemy and is no different than calling Him: God, Lord, Baal, Adonis, Jesus, etc.
There is only One Aluahim, our Heavenly Father YAHUAH, and His son, Yahushua the Messiah, in whom we await his return as the true “bringer of Light”. Our king Yahushua will return with the Light of YAHUAH Aluahim, and will put the disobedient, disgraceful, arrogant, and deceiving Adversary, in his place by crushing his head.
